#“Umeh Was Not My Driver, But He’s My Boy” – Anambra PDP Chieftain#
The pioneer chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra, Chief Joseph Okonkwo has advised Governor Peter Obi that his plan to produce his successor in the forthcoming governorship election will not work – because such things just never work.
Slightly predictable news, what was not predictable however was Okonkwo’s dismissal as untrue and embarrassing the allegation that the current national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, was his driver.
Amazing right? Yes we know.
He corrected the impression, stating that Umeh had in fact served as his special assistant. He also could not pass the opportunity to gush at his former protege – he’s ‘highly pleased’ by Umeh’s rising political profile.
Chief Okonkwo, who is popularly called ‘Ofia-di-ulu’, said he had personally admonished Governor Obi on the need to complete his tenure successfully and quit honourably without wasting his time pursuing the ‘installation’ of a successor.
“I have told Peter Obi not to bother himself about installing his successor. It doesn’t work particularly in our Anambra State and we will not allow it this time around.
“The votes will count and whoever succeeds wins. Nobody will write a result in his room. There is nothing like the incumbency factor in Anambra because there are so many interests and everybody will come out to ensure that only the best emerges asthe next governor”.
Then pertaining to that Umeh-is-a-drive r bit, Okonkwo had this to say.
“I read in a newspaper where Obi’s people said VictorUmeh was my driver. That is a complete fallacy.
“The truth is that Victor was never my driver, he was my special assistant.
“He is my boy, my product and I am proud of him. He has now installed two governors in his party, APGA, and this is what he learnt from me.
Oh, what can we say, good boy Umeh.
